She was a former English teacher and him an Advertising Specialist. The couple have met in Sao Paulo. Besides the common love for gastronomy, did not think in setting up a business. Celia remembers: “Since I was a child, I always liked cooking. I was that girl friends wanted in the kitchen during the trips. “I always enjoyed cooking, but started to develop this side at the age of 18. After work, I used to prepare something for myself. When I met Celia, she lived alone and loved to cook together”, says Gustavo. “I use to say that during these 9 years together, we ordered meals perhaps about 5 times only”, says Celia.
As cooking lovers, the couple liked to receive friends at home and they always suggested them to open their own business. When Celia and Gustavo started more firmly thinking to develop this Idea, they decided to get specialized in the area and get their first course in Brazil. “I was a little tired with my corporate environment and Celia also with her English lessons. This way, we decided to transform our hobby into a real business”, says Gustavo.
Taken the decision, the couple understood that before setting up any kind of business, firstly you need to analyze better the market, study their implications and attend courses, in foreign countries, like France and Italy. “In Italy, products are excellent and the food marvellous, but perhaps with a little lack of technique. In France, technique is better and more common and these items were basic in our decision”, says Celia. So, they went to Paris to attend a course at the famous Cordon Bleu, one of the most renowned gastronomy schools.
The idea was to stay there for 9 months, the course duration time. But life quality they found in Paris invited the couple to stay there a little more. They were settled in an apartment where they started to receive friends, cooking for them, as they did already in Brazil. From their suggestion, they prepared a second cuisine in the same apartment, viewing the dining room/hall, from where they could be talking with their customers. Due to the investment made, they decided their restaurant would be starting at home. So, The Chez Nous, Chez Vous began/ was founded in November, 2008.
